AU Extraordinary Summit to kick off in Equatorial Guinea today

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MALABO: From Wednesday 25thto the 28th of May, the African Union will host two extraordinary summits in Malabo, Equatorial Guinea: The Extraordinary Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference and the Extraordinary Summit on Terrorism and Unconstitutional Changes of Governments in Africa.

The Summits, which coincides with the African Day, will see Heads of States, ministers and Governments, including the Somali Government grace the two-day event.

During the session of the Executive Council, the Chairperson of the African Union Commission, H.E. Moussa Faki Mahamat, will present the Commission Reports on the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism and Violent Extremism and on Unconstitutional Changes of Government in Africa.

The session on Terrorism and UCG will assess these persistent threats, evaluate current response mechanisms, and decide on the specific actions and measures necessary to strengthen the collective security of Member States facing terrorism and violent extremism.

The Extraordinary AU Humanitarian Summit and Pledging Conference will then deliberate on efforts by African leaders to address the current humanitarian challenges that Africa is facing, and that are worsened by factors such as COVID-19 pandemic and several other disasters, and identify durable solutions to address the current humanitarian challenges facing the African continent.
