AU soldiers kill civilians after attack on their convoy near Marka town

The African Union troops in Somalia have been accused of killing five Somali civilians at El-Waregow village near the Southern port town of Marka after landmine hit AMISOM vehicles carrying troops.

After the blast, AMISOM vehicles deliberately demolished houses and ran over the occupants leading the death of five people from one family, according to Abukar Ali Omar, the father of the victims.

Speaking to Goobjoog News, Omar said the AU convoy which escaped from the blast started killing the villagers.

“I lost my wife, one child, two grandsons and my nephew after AMISOM vehicle rammed into my house,” said Omar.

The incident comes less than 24 hours after six civilians were killed in the outskirt of Qoryooley, an agricultural town after AMISOM troops hit their minibus with rocket-propelled grenade (RPG).

It is not the first time the AU peacekeepers have committed atrocities or similar acts.

Somalia’s Federal government has not issued a statement on both incidents which have created anger among the Somali communities.

AMISOM which has over 22,000 peacekeepers from Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia, Djibout and Burundi in the country has not yet commented on the incident.
