AU, Somali troops recapture town in Southern Somalia from Al-Shabaab
Somali troops and African Union peacekeeping forces have taken control of a town in Bakool region from Al-Shabaab fighters during a major offensive on Tuesday, an army official said.
General Hassan, a top commander of SNA in the front line said that Al-Shabaab fighters was driven from Mooragaabey town about 30 km south of Hudur town in Bakool region.
Hassan said Al-Shabaab fighters fled the areas without resistance on Tuesday morning as the joint forces were advancing.
He said forces will step up their military operations to annihilate Al-Shabaab fighters who are controlling parts of Bakool region.
Al-Shabaab fighters are trying to topple the western backed Somalia’s government and in the past few weeks they have intensified attacks against government officials.
Since 2011, Al-Shabaab has lost their foothold in major ground in Somalia, including the capital, but continued their battle to overthrow the western-backed Somali federal government based in Mogadishu.
