Capture of Sabiib in L. Shabelle a major milestone-AMISOM
AMISOM chief Francisco Madeira and the force’s commander Lt.Gen. Tigabu Yima Wondimhunegn have lauded the capture of Sabiib town in Lower Shabelle region following a joint offensive by AU and Somali army.
In a statement to newsrooms, Madeira said the capture of Sabiib, a strategic town in Lower Shabelle region was a major milestone in the implementation of the Somali Transitional Plan.
“This operation is a concrete delivery in the implementation of the Somali Transition Plan. In an enhanced joint operation between AMISOM and SNA, we will eventually accomplish the implementation of the first phase of the Transition Plan in the region with the liberation of other important and strategic targets,” Ambassador Madeira said.
Madeira noted the ‘control of such strategic areas will deny the enemy the freedom to continue to terrorist Somalia populations’.
Lt.Gen. Tigabu Yima Wondimhunegn, the AMISOM Force Commander, said the liberation of the town carried our yesterday through a joint offensive between SNA and AMISOM, marks an important part of the implementation of the revised AMISOM concept of operations (CONOPS).
Sabiib town which is located at Lower Shabelle region of Somalia was one of the strategic objectives which are earmarked for liberation.
