AUSSOM Military Support on Agenda as President Mohamud Meets Sisi in Cairo

GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is today meeting with his Egyptian counterpart Abdel Fatah Sisi in Cairo in a bid to bolster diplomatic relations.
President Mohamud and his delegation arrived in Cairo Sunday ahead of a meeting with the Egyptian leader.
Sources said among the top agenda items is Egypt’s participation in the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission (AUSSOM) following its ratification last year. According to the force distribution framework, Egypt was allocated around 3,000 slots for military deployment.
Notable also will be the President’s interest to inspire confidence of Egypt following the resumption of relations between Ethiopia and Somalia. The last time President Mohamud was in Egypt, both Addis and Mogadishu were at loggerheads following the controversial January 2024 MOU.
Somalia had then sought the support of Egypt including signing defence pacts. Egypt has been in dispute with Ethiopia following the filling of the GRAND Renaissance Dam (GERD) and has been exploring support in the Horn of Africa region.
