No operations beyond midnight, Mogadishu mayor orders restaurants in Liddo Beach
All restaurants and hotels operating in Lido Beach will not be allowed to continue business beyond midnight, Mogadishu mayor Abdirahman Osman has decreed.
The mayor said the decision was arrived at following complaints from the public that some of the restaurants in the busy Lido Beach were engaged in ‘activities that go against Islam and Somali culture’.
“The Banadir administration is considering a number of complaints from the community living in Banadir region that the restaurants and hotels in Lido Beach were seen to be against the religion, the moral conduct and the Somali culture,” the mayor said in a statement Thursday.
The mayor who also doubles as Banaadir region governor said any abuses against girls in Lido Beach will be dealt with according to the law.
He ordered security agencies to enforce the decree with immediate effect.
“Liido beach is a community centre where people can come and enjoy, and cannot be used for any kind of abuse. Anyone who acts against it, the security agencies are required to take action and apply the law.”
