GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Governor of Banaadir Region and Mayor of Mogadishu, Dr. Hassan Mohamed Hussein on Monday inaugurated Somalia’s intermediate-level national examinations, with more than 41,600 students participating across the capital and surrounding districts.

The event marks the sixth consecutive year that the Banaadir Regional Administration has independently administered the exams, highlighting the growing institutional capability of local governance and a renewed focus on rebuilding Somalia’s public education system.

“This is a testament to our commitment to ensuring that every child, regardless of circumstance, has access to quality and free education,” Mayor Hussein said during the launch ceremony. He pledged increased investment in educational infrastructure and programs, emphasizing that education remains a cornerstone of long-term peace and development in Somalia.

The Mayor praised the resilience of students and their families, many of whom continue to pursue education despite ongoing security and economic challenges. He also lauded the role of security forces in safeguarding examination centers, ensuring that the process remains transparent and protected.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from the Banaadir administration, including Deputy Governor for Security and Politics, Mohamed Ahmed Diriye, Banaadir Police Division Commander, education supervisors, and other regional dignitaries.

With East Africa facing high youth unemployment and widespread demand for improved education systems, Somali leaders are positioning education reform as a path to stability and regional integration.
