Public resource management and accountability in Banadir Regional Administration is set to significantly undergo a transformation thanks to the unveiling of the Public Financial Management program.

The program launched Wednesday but has been fully operation since the beginning of July is expected to ensure efficient, effective, transparent and accountable use of public resources. Banadir administration governor Thabit Mohamed said the new program was instrumental in improving service provision and promoting transparency.

“Our overall vision of PFM reform is to effectively engage our people in the region and bring services closer to them,” said Thabit Mohamed who also doubles up as the Mayor of Mogadishu.

Deputy Governor Makuka Abdulkadir said the program was critical to financial management reform adding for the first time the administration had published its budget for over 25 years. “BRA for the first time since 1991 has implemented and published a comprehensive budget for the second half of 2017. This is an important step for the region as it sets the foundation for the financial reforms.”

The PFM is also supported by Financial Management Information System (FMIS) which will automate financial management and ensure efficiency and transparency.
