Banadir Region Police Arrest 15 for Organizing Demonstrations in Darussalam District

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Police in Banadir regional administration have arrested 15 people accused of causing violence in Darussalam district by organizing demonstrations that resulted in destruction of property.

In a statement, Banadir Regional Police Command said it’s conducting further investigations on the arrested individuals and will soon charge them in court to face justice, and issued a stern warning to Mogadishu residents to desist from any activity that is against the law.  

“The people of the capital and its surroundings are informed to refrain from participating in rallies that may cause acts of insecurity,” the statement issued by the General Division of the Somali Police reads.

Organizers of the protests that took place in Darussalam were demanding that of the district be chosen from their community following a decree issued by federal republic of Somalia president Hassan Sheilk Mohamud that confirmed Gubadlee, Darussalam, and Garasbaale as districts within the Banadir region.

President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud’s recognition of the new districts is a milestone in the ongoing efforts to enhance local governance and service delivery in Mogadishu and its surrounding areas.

The federal government aims to ensure that these regions receive the necessary support to thrive and contribute to the overall development of the Banadir region.
