GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Banadir police have closed in on a man suspected to have killed Hibo Qasim, the 18-year-old former student of Iftin School who was killed in broad daylight on Tuesday in the Elasha Biyaha area, on the outskirts of Mogadishu.

Speaking to the media, Yasin Ganey, a district police commander in Mogadishu, said that the prime suspect, identified as Jeylani Adan Abadir, was apprehended after a thorough investigation by the police with the assistance of local authorities in Elasha Biyaha.

The commander confirmed that the suspect indeed stabbed the victim with a knife before he fled with her mobile phone, leaving her dead. He also added that well-wishers rushed Hibo to hospital, but it was a little too late, as the injuries she sustained were fatal.

Commander Yasin assured the family and members of the public that the suspect would be subjected to intensive investigations to ascertain if he worked alone or if he had other accomplices, whereupon he will be taken to a court of law to answer to murder charges.

The arrest of the main suspect in Hibo’s killing has provided a sense of relative calm as her killing had sent shock waves across the entire country, having been killed barely an hour after receiving her secondary school results, which she had passed with flying colours.
