Man Accused of Funneling $13 Million to Al-Shabaab Jailed for 13 Years

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Banadir regional court Monday delivered its ruling against four Al-Shabaab Sympathizers believed to be involved in financing the group.

In his ruling, the court’s judge Salah Ali Mohamud sentenced Hassan Osman Aden to 13 years in prison and ordered him to pay a fine 20,000 dollars. He was found guilty of aiding transfer of funds to the terrorist group Al-Shabaab in collusion with his wife, ex-wife and daughter.

Three women, Fadumo Hassan Osman, Amina Abudllahi Abbabur and Hasna Aweys Khasim were sentenced to serve two years jail terms each.

According to the prosecution, Hassan instructed his three co-accused to open ten bank accounts which were then used to funnel $12.6 million over a four-year period.

In his earlier defence, Hassan told the court he only had $25 only in his bank account. He further said the bank accounts held by his wife, ex-wife and daughter were opened on his instructions.
