Biden Promises Collaborative Efforts in Developing Somalia in Independence Day Message

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: United States President Joe Biden has said his country will continue collaborating with Somalia in creating a better future for the country’s citizens and the world.

I his Independence Day message to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud and the Somali people, Biden expressed his warm wishes from the American people, underscoring the strong friendship between the two nations.

“As critical partners, our nations are working together to build a better world for our children, and children everywhere. The United States stands with Somalia in its continued efforts to advance security, build inclusive economic growth, promote governance reform and human rights, and tackle climate shock and drought,” President Biden stated.

Regarding Somalia’s recent election to the UN Security Council, President Biden said the move was a significant achievement and reflects Somalia’s progress which has earned the international community’s confidence in the country’s future.

He also emphasized the need to strengthen existing bilateral ties between the two states and said the United States will support Somalia as it continues taking over security responsibilities from the African Union Transition Mission in Somalia (ATMIS) which is set to conclude its forces’ drawdown this year.
