Trailblazing Somali Boxer Ramla Ali Celebrated In Mogadishu after Global Victories

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali-born boxer Ramla Ali, the first Somali woman to win an international gold medal, returned to Mogadishu on Sunday to a hero’s welcome after a string of global successes.
Ali was received at Aden Adde International Airport by government officials and cheering supporters.
Family Affairs and Human Rights Minister Khadija Mohamed Al-Makhzoumi praised her achievements, saying Ali had carried Somalia’s flag on the world stage. Banadir Deputy Governor for Social Affairs Abdiaziz Osman added that her success showed the resilience and talent of Somali women.
Ali thanked the Somali people for their support, telling reporters she was proud to share her victories with the nation.
Her homecoming was widely seen as a moment of national pride, highlighting Somalia’s growing presence in international sports and offering inspiration to young athletes, especially women.
