BREAKING: Three wounded in demonstration against President Mohamud in Beletweyne
Three people have been wounded in Beletweyne, central Somalia following a demonstration in the town against President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud after talks he spearheaded collapsed.
Goobjoog News correspondent in the town said the demonstration started shortly after talks about the stalled state formation process failed following the president’s position that he meets each elder separately.
“The presidential guards opened fire wounding three people after the demonstration broke out,” our correspondent said.
President Mohamud went to Beletweyne Friday to mediate talks among elders following new demands by the elders that Hiiraan region be allocated more seats for delegates than its neighbor Middle Shabelle in the state formation conference.
The Middle Shabelle/Hiiraan state formation conference collapsed in January following disagreements over the delegates composition.
