British and Malaysian nationals get 15 years in jail for Al-Shabaab membership

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: A military court in Mogadishu has today sentenced two foreigners to 15 years for belonging to the Al-Shabaab militant group.

The court sentenced the two, a British and the other a Malaysian after it established they were Al-Shabaab members. According to the prosecution, the two entered Somalia from Kenya in 2009. The British reportedly converted to Islam and married a Somali woman, the court heard.

The two were at some point held in Al-Shabaab prison on suspicion they were ‘international spies’.
