Burundi to continue supporting war against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Burundi has said it will continue to support the Federal Government of Somalia’s efforts to completely liberate the country from Al-Shabaab.

Speaking when he paid a courtesy call to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud in Mogadishu, Burundi’s Foreign Affairs Minister Albert Shingiro conveyed a goodwill message from President Évariste Ndayishimiye who expressed his commitment to peace and stability in the region.

President Mohamud on his part stressed the importance of the region standing together in fighting terrorism and added that Burundi has been a strategic partner in the war against Al-Shabaab and that the two countries will collaborate also in other development areas.

Burundi is one of the countries contributing troops to the African Union Mission in Somalia, also known by its initials – ATMIS.

Uganda, Kenya, Ethiopia and Djibouti also have soldiers deployed to the mission.
