Bus Carrying Mourners Crashes in Kenya, Killing 25

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KISUMU, Kenya: At least 25 people were killed on Saturday when a bus carrying mourners from a funeral overturned and plunged into a ditch in southwestern Kenya, police said.
The bus was travelling from Kakamega to Kisumu when the driver lost control at high speed approaching a roundabout, swerving off the road before rolling into a ditch, said regional traffic officer Peter Maina.
Among the victims were 10 women, a 10-year-old girl and 10 men. Twenty-nine passengers were injured, four of whom later died in hospital, said Fredrick Ouma Oluga, Kenya’s principal secretary for medical services.
Local media said the crash happened on a notorious stretch of road where accidents are common. The cause was not immediately known.
The tragedy comes just two days after an air ambulance crash near Nairobi killed six people, heightening concern over transport safety in the country.
