Cabinet Backs Security Push, Approves New International Agreements

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The federal government of Somalia’s cabinet on Thursday approved a series of international agreements, adopted a government-wide performance policy and promoted two senior officials to ambassadorial rank following its weekly meeting in Mogadishu.

The session, chaired by Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, endorsed several diplomatic and cooperation agreements aimed at strengthening Somalia’s foreign relations and institutional capacity.

Ministers approved a memorandum of understanding with Pakistan granting visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic passports, a health cooperation agreement with Russia and a framework for political consultations with Spain.

The cabinet also ratified an agreement with the International Atomic Energy Agency on safeguards linked to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, aligning Somalia with global nuclear oversight standards.

In addition, ministers adopted the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances and the Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic, measures aimed at strengthening the country’s maritime and border security frameworks.

The cabinet also approved a Unified Performance Management Policy designed to improve efficiency and accountability across federal government institutions.

During the meeting, the government promoted Adan Isaaq Ali and Abdifatah Sh. Ahmed Abdimannan to the diplomatic rank of ambassador.
