22 people have been killed in an explosion which took place at the entrance to the city’s largest port.

A suicide car bomb went off on early Sunday morning at the entrance when the port workers were preparing to start their daily work.

Our correspondent who visited the scene said 22 civilians have died and over thirty others were injured in the explosion.

“We saw twenty dead bodies, the death toll may rise. There were porters queuing outside the gate when the blast occurred,” he said.

Abdikadir Abdirahman Adan, director of Mogadishu’s AMIN ambulance service said their ambulances ferried 48 wounded people.

“Our ambulances carried 48 people who injured in the blast and 16 others who were killed,” said Adan.

The attack comes just less than 24 hours after two Somali soldiers were killed and four others injured in a suicide bomb attack at a security checkpoint outside the Mogadishu.
