GOOBJOOG NEWS|mogadishu: China has voiced strong support for the formation and rollout of Somalia’s North East State administration, following the inauguration of the regional state’s newly elected president in Las Anod.

In a statement issued by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China in Mogadishu, Beijing extended congratulations to Somalia’s top federal leadership and the wider Somali public, describing the inauguration as a successful milestone.

The embassy said it “warmly congratulates” President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, Prime Minister Hamza Abdi Barre, the Federal Government and the Somali people on the inauguration of North East State President Abdulkadir Ahmed Aw-Ali, which took place in Las Anod.

The statement underlined China’s backing for Somalia’s efforts to strengthen its federal system, establish inclusive administrations, and reinforce national unity, stability and development.

China’s endorsement is likely to carry political weight as Somalia navigates a sensitive period marked by ongoing state-building efforts and initiatives aimed at consolidating peace and cohesion, with the North East State project emerging as a key test of federal integration and political inclusivity.

The embassy did not announce any new projects or assistance linked to its statement, but framed its position as aligned with Somalia’s broader priorities of governance consolidation and national stability.
