China Reaffirms Support for Somalia’s Sovereignty, Territorial Integrity
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: China has reaffirmed its support for Somalia’s territorial integrity and national unity following diplomatic consultations with Somali officials.
Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu held a telephone call with Foreign Minister Abdisalam Dhaay, during which he said Beijing firmly backs Somalia’s sovereignty and rejects any moves that undermine its borders, according to a statement.
The two sides expressed joint opposition to separatism, describing it as a threat to the core interests of both countries and to regional stability in the Horn of Africa. China said its position was rooted in the principles of international law and respect for state sovereignty.
Dhaay welcomed China’s stance, noting that support from a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council strengthens Somalia’s efforts to safeguard its independence.
The officials agreed to coordinate closely in international forums to counter actions or narratives that challenge the unity of sovereign states, the statement said.
