Clan Elders Urged to Support Military Campaign Against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s top intelligence and military officials held a strategic meeting with clan elders in Tardo to strengthen cooperation in the fight against the al-Shabaab insurgency.

The Director of the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA), Abdullahi Mohamed Ali (Sanbaloolshe), and the Commander of the Somali National Army’s Ground Forces, Major General Sahal Abdullahi Omar, led the talks aimed at accelerating ongoing military operations and deepening local engagement.

The meeting focused on enhancing collaboration between the government and communities to counter the threat posed by the Al-Shabaab, Somalia’s term for extremist insurgents.

Both officials commended traditional leaders for their continued support of frontline forces and emphasized the importance of sustained community mobilization in securing liberated areas and denying militants safe havens.

“Defeating terrorism in Somalia requires unity and trust between our security forces and the people,” said NISA Director Sanbaloolshe. “Clan elders remain key partners in this national effort.”

The talks in Tardo are part of a wider strategy by the Somali government to expand civilian-military cooperation and stabilize regions reclaimed from insurgent control.
