Airstrikes, clashes reported at Sudanese capital, Khartoum
GOOBJOOG NEWS | KHARTOUM: Airstrikes and clashes were reported at the Sudanese Capital Khartoum late Monday night as the week-long ceasefire came to an end.
Witnesses reported heavy smoke after the gunfire and explosions that rocked the city damping hopes for the much needed truce to allow in humanitarian aid and create a safe passage for trapped citizens to flee to safer areas.
An official with the Norwegian Humanitarian Council (NRC) said the country is still experience fighting in various areas putting the lives of many civilians at risk.
“We’ve had over a month of broken promises and empty words while humanitarian colleagues were killed, together with children and others and hospitals destroyed,” the official said.
Fighting between the army led by Sudan’s de facto leader Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) commanded by Burhan’s former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Daglo which began since April 13 has left about 1,000 people dead and forced more than a million to flee their homes.
