Mogadishu remembers October 14, 2017 terror attack

Residents of Mogadishu today gathered at Zoobe junction to mark two years since the deadly October 14, 2017 bombing which killed over 500 people and injured 300 others.

The ceremony was attended by top government officials including Mogadishu Mayor Omar Mohamud Mohamed Finish and the district commissioners.

There was also a large crowd of people most of them youth to remember the day their brothers, fathers, mothers, sisters and even friends were killed in the attack. According to a government report, 687 people were killed, 300 injured and 2,000 children orphaned.

The attack was the deadliest in Somalia’s history. No group claimed responsibility but the government put blame on the militant group Al-Shabaab.

The security of Mogadishu has been tightened, especially on roads and exit ways of the city.
