GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Federal Government of Somalia’s Minister of Communications and Technology, Mohamed Adan Moallim, on Tuesday visited the construction site of the country’s first National Data Center, as the project nears completion in a major step toward securing and localizing government information.

The Minister who was accompanied by senior ministry officials, including the Director General, received in-depth briefings from engineers on site. This marked his second on-site inspection of the facility, which is expected to play a pivotal role in Somalia’s digital transformation.

“This center is not just infrastructure, it is the backbone of our digital future,” said the Minister, urging contractors to accelerate final touches and meet high security and operational standards.

Once operational, the National Data Center will house critical government data previously stored abroad, helping Somalia assert digital sovereignty and improve cyber security.

The facility is a cornerstone of the government’s broader strategy to modernize public services, enhance transparency, and reduce dependency on foreign digital storage.

The Minister emphasized that timely completion of the project is essential to unlocking new digital services for citizens and strengthening state institutions in the digital era.
