GOOBJOOG NEWS | LAS ANOD: A high-level conference aimed at formalizing the governance structure of the SSC-Khaatumo administration is set to begin in Las Anod, the capital of the Sool region.

The event is expected to bring together federal government representatives, SSC-Khaatumo leaders, cultural elders, and local community delegates. Organizers say the primary focus will be finalizing the legal framework of the emerging regional administration and setting its political direction.

“This is a pivotal moment for the people of SSC-Khaatumo,” a member of the organizing committee told local media. “We are working to ensure the region has a functional, inclusive, and legitimate governance structure.”

In recent days, Las Anod has hosted a flurry of behind-the-scenes meetings to iron out logistical details, underscoring the event’s political significance and the degree of coordination required.

However, the process has not been without controversy. Some traditional leaders have voiced opposition, citing a lack of broad-based consultation ahead of the conference. “We need more dialogue before deciding on such sensitive governance matters,” one elder told reporters.

The Federal Government of Somalia has previously expressed support for the formalization of the SSC-Khaatumo administration, calling it part of broader efforts to stabilize the region and expand federal representation.

The SSC-Khaatumo territories have been at the center of political contestation and shifting alliances. This conference marks the latest attempt to establish a lasting administrative solution through dialogue and federal engagement.
