CPC warns speaker Mursal of frustrating PM’s poll efforts

The Council of Presidential Candidates has warned to the outgoing Speaker of the Lower Hous Mohamed Mursal Abdirahman, for ‘sabotaging the constitutional work’ of the Prime Minister in his endeavour to seek justice for the family of deceased spy agent Ikran Farah.

The Council said it was fully aware of Mursal’s plans to recall MPs to disrupt the efforts of the Prime Minister and to obstruct justice.

The Council reminded him that his actions almost plunged the country into the ‘dark ages of civil war’ following his approval the two-year extension requested by the outgoing President, Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo in April. The unilateral resolution by the Lower House in April 12 was however nullified following local and international pressure.

The Council fully further pledged their support for the Prime Minister who is tasked with the country’s security and overseeing the successful running of elections after President Farmajo failed to hold transparent, free and fair elections according to the set timetable.

The 15 member Council also said it supported the Prime Minister’s efforts in carrying out a full and comprehensive investigation into the murder of Ikran.

Further, the Council condemned the outgoing President for obstructing justice for Farah’s family by providing illegal protection to the defendants implicated in the case.
CPC also urged Roble to expedite changes in the elections roadmap set out by the National Consultative Council late last month which handed Federal Member State leaders power over the composition of electoral delegates.
