Dahir quits Somali presidential race, joins list of three others
GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Presidential candidate Dahir Mohamud Guelleh has on Saturday announced his withdrawal from the Somali presidential race, a few hours to the election on Sunday.
A statement on his Facebook page announced his withdrawal and thanked his supporters and fellow parliamentarians.
“I officially announce that I am not running for the presidential election of the Federal Republic of Somalia in this election, and I will continue my efforts to direct and develop Somali politics. I am especially grateful to the parliamentary candidates who stood by me closely during our campaign,”said Dahir Mohamud Geelle.
The former information minister becomes the 3rd candidate to quit the Somalia presidential race a day after two other candidates, Abdinasir Abdulle and Abdikarim Guled also withdrew and threw their weight behind Wadajir party leader and presidential candidate Abdirahman Abdishakur.
