Danaab Commandos Rescue Nine Civilians in Successful Operation against Al-Shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: The Somali National Army’s elite Danab special forces rescued nine civilians during a successful military operation against Al-Shabaab fighters in the Gamboole area of the Middle Shabelle region, the Defence Ministry said.

According to the ministry, the civilians had been abducted by the militant group before the Danaab commandos launched a targeted operation that secured their release and dealt a significant blow to the militants involved.

The ministry said several Al-Shabaab fighters, including senior operatives linked to the group’s activities, were killed during the raid.

The operation highlights the federal government of Somalia’s continued commitment to protecting civilians and intensifying pressure on Al-Shabaab through coordinated military offensives across central and southern Somalia.

Federal government authorities said the rescue reflects growing operational capabilities within the Somali National Army, particularly the Danab commandos, who have played a leading role in counterterrorism operations aimed at dismantling militant networks and securing communities affected by violence.

The government has in recent months stepped up offensives against Al-Shabaab with support from local forces and international partners, resulting in the recovery of territory and disruption of militant activities in several regions.

Somalia’s Defence Ministry said operations against the group would continue until peace, stability and full security are restored across the country.

The latest rescue operation comes as the federal government increases efforts to expand state authority, protect civilians and stabilize areas liberated from Al-Shabaab control.
