Danaab Forces Clear Militant Checkpoints in Middle and Lower Shabelle
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s Danab special forces have removed a series of checkpoints and roadblocks that armed militants were using to restrict the movement of civilians and vehicles in parts of Middle and Lower Shabelle.
According to the Somali military, the operation was conducted by the 164th Battalion of the 16th Danab Brigade in areas spanning the two regions, where the forces targeted locations believed to have been used by armed groups.
The military said the roadblocks had disrupted traffic and movement between the two regions and were dismantled during the operation, allowing vehicles and residents to move more freely along the affected routes.
The operation is part of wider government-led security efforts in Middle and Lower Shabelle, where Somali forces have been conducting operations aimed at securing key roads and populated areas.
The military said the operations are intended to improve security and facilitate civilian movement, while urging residents to cooperate with security forces and provide information on the activities of armed groups.
The statement did not specify the number of checkpoints removed, their exact locations or whether any militants were killed or captured during the operation.
