Danaab Special Forces Kill Over 20 Al-Shabaab Fighters in Bay Region Operation

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somalia’s elite Danaab Special Forces, working alongside international partners, have killed more than 20 Al-Shabaab fighters, including senior leaders, during a planned overnight operation in the Buula Fuleey area of the Bay region.

According to army sources, the raid targeted key locations used by the Islamist group as command and operational bases in one of its most strategic strongholds in southern Somalia.

Military officials added that several militant hideouts were destroyed during the operation.

Security forces also demolished a radio station operated by Al-Shabaab in the area, dealing a blow to the group’s propaganda and communication network.

The operation follows a series of intensified actions against the militants. Two days earlier, Somali forces targeted senior al-Shabaab leaders in the Middle Juba region.

A few days ago, government troops, backed by local community fighters, repelled an Al-Shabaab attack in the Wargaadhi area of Middle Shabelle.

Somalia has stepped up military pressure on Al-Shabaab in recent months, with support from international partners, as part of a broader campaign to weaken the group’s leadership, finances and territorial control.
