Danab Forces Launch Operations Against Al Shabaab Near Kismayo

GOOBJOOG NEWS | KISMAYO: Somalia’s elite Danab commandos have launched operations against Al-Shabaab fighters in areas on the outskirts of Kismayo, the interim capital of Jubaland state.

The operations follow intelligence indicating that Al-Shabaab militants were attempting to regroup in the area, the sources said. Danab units are operating alongside a small number of fighters from Jubaland’s regional forces.

The campaign, which began late on Monday, includes searches for improvised explosive devices along key roads and troop deployments to surrounding villages, according to the sources.

Danab forces have stepped up operations across parts of the Lower Juba region in recent days, with commanders saying their latest missions have disrupted militant activity.

Somali authorities say the national armed forces, working with regional troops and allied local fighters known as Macawisley, remain committed to driving Al-Shabaab out of remaining strongholds, protecting civilians, and restoring government control in areas reclaimed from the group.
