Deadly clash ends in Mogadishu as police arrest renegade soldier

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Renegade military office General Sheegow who engaged police officers in a deadly fight in Mogadishu that lasted into this morning has been arrested.

Police sources said General Sheegow was arrested alongside 25 soldiers loyal to him Saturday morning ending the heavy exchange of fire that displaced local residents.

Fighting broke out at about 9pm Friday night after police officers arrived at Kaawo Godey area in Mogadishu following reports that the Sheegow group had caused a security breach in the area. Other sources said the fighting broke out after police arrested two soldiers allied to General Sheegow sparking the fighting.

The two sides trade fire which lasted into Saturday morning. The Somali Police Force is yet to issue a statement about the incident.
