Death toll in Mogadishu twin blasts rises to 11
The death toll in the twin bombings that hit Mogadishu yesterday has increased as two more succumbed to injuries bringing the number of those who killed to 11.
Police Commissioner General Abdihakim Fiqi told journalists last evening nine people had been killed in the attack while 25 others were injured. But the medical emergency provider Aamin Ambulance has this morning said 11 people are now confirmed dead and 26 injured.
Almost all the casualties were registered in the first blast which went off near Sayidka Junction in the central business district.
According to the police spokesperson Zakia Hussein, the second blast involved a Noah Minivan which blew up at a checkpoint in KM4 about 20 minutes after the first blast. The driver of the van was arrested.
The twin blasts happened more than a month after the last ones during the month of Ramadan in May.
