Defence Minister Fiqi Launches New Language Centre for Somali Military

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Defence minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has inaugurated a new Centre for Language and Translation aimed at boosting the communication and linguistic capabilities of defence personnel.

The launch ceremony, held at the Ministry of Defence, brought together senior officials including Brig. Gen. Madey Nur Sheikh Ufurow, Assistant to the Chief of Defence Forces, former Deputy Defence Minister Abdifitah Qassim, members of parliament, and staff from the Ministry and Army Headquarters.

In his remarks, Fiqi said the Centre will play a critical role in preparing military officers and ministry staff for international training and cooperation programmes. He described the facility as a strategic asset that will strengthen Somalia’s engagement with global partners.

The minister noted that the Centre was created to enhance language proficiency and translation services across the Ministry and the Somali National Army, ensuring national security operations are supported with the necessary linguistic expertise.

Fiqi urged staff to make full use of the Centre’s resources, saying improved language skills will help personnel better fulfil their national duties.
