Defence Minister Fiqi Says Al-Shabaab Losing Strength
GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Defence Minister, Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has said recent military operations have significantly weakened Al-Shabaab, leaving the insurgent group in disarray and unable to sustain prolonged engagements.
Speaking in Mogadishu, Minister Fiqi highlighted that the Somali National Army’s offensives across central and southern regions have disrupted the group’s command structures and forced fighters into defensive positions.
“Our forces have clearly demonstrated that the enemy is now in decline, with capabilities weakening day by day,” he said.
The Minister added that Al-Shabaab’s use of intimidation as a tactic is diminishing as their strongholds are systematically cleared and fighters struggle to find safe havens. He described the sustained operations as not only liberating territory but also undermining the insurgents’ narrative of invincibility.
He stressed that the ongoing offensives aim to consolidate gains, prevent regrouping, and continue to degrade the operational capacity of the extremist group across Somalia.
