GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Defence Minister Ahmed Moallim Fiqi has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening the Somali National Armed Forces (SNAF) against improvised explosive devices (IEDs) used by Islamist militants.

Speaking at the launch of the National C-IED Strategy Validation Conference in Mogadishu, Fiqi said success would require unity among security agencies and continued backing from international partners.

He praised the Office of National Security’s Central Monitoring Department for leading the strategy’s development, calling it “a vital step to safeguard Somali lives and enhance national stability.”

The new plan marks a milestone in Somalia’s broader security sector reform, linking counter-IED efforts to wider stabilization initiatives. They stressed that progress would depend on sustained coordination between state institutions and local communities.
