Dhusamareeb airport opens up for service once again

Dhusamareeb airport was yesterday inaugurated after it has been rebuilt by the local administration with the help of the residents and is fully functional to offer services to the public.

The rehabilitated Ugaas Noor Airport was officially opened by the first minister of the state Sheikh Ahmed Shakir Ali who expressed his gratitude to all those who made the public facility achievable.

“We thank the people who made extra effort and encourage them to continue with the same spirit to finalize the remaining part of the airport. The facility used to be busy during the reign of Siad Barre government but was neglected thereafter” said First Minister Shakir.

Shortly afterwards, federal MP Ubah Tahlil Warsame landed in the airport leading a delegation.

Local commissioner Maalim Noor Abdulle who spoke during in the event welcomed the federal MP Warsame and appealed to the local people to be vigilant on maintaining security

MP Warsame who travelled to her homeland state is gearing up for the welcoming of the Somali president Farmaajo who is expected to visit the region in the coming days. She noted the hope she had on the incumbent Somali administration of creating peace in central region.

“I knew such peace will prevail upon the state when president Farmajo was elected working on the reconciliation process in the central region” said MP Warsame.

Early December 2017, Galmudug state and the moderate Islamist group Ahlu Sunnah wal Jamaah have agreed on a power sharing formula which would end the 3 year old conflict between the two sides and ultimately led to transfer of state capital to Dhusamareb currently under Ahlu Sunnah following talks in Nairobi and Djibouti designating the position of chief minister to Ahsu Sunnah and expanding the state assembly to accommodate the Islamic movement group.

The inauguration event was attended by officials from Galmudug State, traditional elders and the local people.
