Storyline:National News

GOOBJOOG NEWS|MOGADISHU: Mohamed Farmaajo whose term as President of Somalia lapsed in February 8, 2021 but went ahead to illegally, albeit unsuccessfuly extend his mandate in collusion with Lower House speaker Mohamed Mursal has this afternoon driven the country into the brink by sensationally claiming to have ‘suspended’ the powers of Prime Minister Mohamed Roble.

Villa Somalia which has now turned into a mill churning out statements to counter the PM claimed Thursday afternoon that the powers of the PM had been ‘suspended’ pending elections.

Article 97 of the Provisional Constitution creates the Executive Branch of the Federal Government which is headed by the Prime Minister while Article 100 sets out the responsibilities of the PM. The President, according to the Provisional Constitution does not donate powers to the PM but instead, the PM derives power and authority from the Provisional Constitution.

According to the statement, the outgoing leader took the decision to ‘suspend’ the PM’s powers in regards to appointments and dismissals following what it termed as the PM’s deviation from his mandate, taking unconsidered steps that could lead to political and security crisis in the country and attempts to infringe on the rights and salaries of the Armed Forces as well as the misuse of power by certain institutions.

Farmaajo’s latest move which portends adverse instability in government will derail the ongoing electoral process which in effect secures his continued stay in power.
