Djibouti speaker calls on Parliament to strengthen working relationship to unite Somalia

Djibouti parliament speaker Mohamed Ali Hamud has called on the Senate and the Lower House to strengthen working relations in order to enhance the legislative agenda of Parliament and unify the country.

Speaking during a meeting with the Senate leadership Sunday, Hamud said it was imperative the two Houses build a strong working relationship for the country’s unity.

“Our visit here in Somalia is to strengthen our friendly relationship. We want the Senate and the National Assembly to work in unison to strengthen the unity of Somalia” said speaker Hamud.

First deputy speaker of the Senate Abshir Bukhari hosted the Djiboutian speaker while Speaker Abdi Hashi Abdullahi joined in via telephone from Turkey.

The meeting comes a day after Hamud addressed the Lower House Saturday where he expressed his country’s commitment to support Somalia.

“Today Somalia is going through a pleasant period with hope on security and development. We came to stand with the Somali people, support peace, unity and brotherhood of the Somali people,” Hamud told the House.
