Djibouti to Convene IGAD Extraordinary Summit over Ethiopia Deal

GOOBJOOG NEWS | DJIBOUTI: Djibouti, the current chair of the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD), has announced that it will convene an extraordinary summit on the ongoing crisis between Ethiopia and Somalia and the situation in Sudan.

Djibouti’s Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ministry said in a statement that the summit which was called by President Ismail Omar Guelleh, who is also the chair of IGAD, and will be hosted by President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda on 18 January 2024.

The statement revealed that the summit will address the escalating tension between Ethiopia and Somalia over the Somali Sea and the Ethiopian deal with Somaliland, and the political and security challenges in Sudan.

Further, the statement added that official invitations will be sent to all IGAD member states, the African Union and international partners through diplomatic channels, and requested the IGAD Secretariat in Djibouti to coordinate with the Ugandan authorities for the organization of the summit.
