Djibouti vows to support Somalia’s fight against Al-shabaab

GOOBJOOG NEWS | MOGADISHU: Somali and Djibouti have agreed to strengthen diplomatic ties and collaborate in the fight against the Al-Shabaab.

Speaking in Mogadishu while welcoming the new Ambassador of Djibouti to Somalia Mohammed Ibrahim Yousif, parliament speaker Sheikh Adan Mohamed Noor said the two countries which have had good relations over the years have agreed to enhance collaborations in various sectors for the good of citizens of the two nations.

Ambassador Yusuf on his part promised that Djibouti, which is one of the countries contributing troops fighting against the Al-shabaab militants said his country will continue supporting stabilization efforts in Somalia.

In February, President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud hosted Djibouti’s President Ismail Omar Guelleh and other East African leaders in Mogadishu where the leaders agreed to put up a “united fight” against the al-Shabaab terror group.

“The leaders “agreed to jointly plan and organize a robust operational campaign at the frontline states level, of search and destroy on multiple frontlines aiming at key al-Shabaab strongholds across the south and central Somalia,” they said in a joint statement.
