Drought and Water Shortage in Parts of Mudug Region
Severe water shortage and drought has forced nomads and villagers in eastern parts of Mudug region to abandon their homes. Says the commissioner of Eailgula village, Ali Bashi.
The Commissioner warned possible humanitarian situation in the area “previously, residents in the village and nomads had access to salt water from one well, but now the bore-well is no longer a functional” said the commissioner Ali Bashi Adan Mo’alim.
The commissioner said villagers and nomads are now facing difficult situations, where some of them start to leave the area. “Livestock is endangered, we have cases of cattle dying for lack of water and pasture” said the Commissioner.
The Commissioner called residents of Mudug region to do something about the situations to save the people of Eailgula.
Mudug is one of the driest regions in the country and frequently experienced repeated droughts and water shortages.
