EAC Hosts Peace, Security Meeting For Border Communities

GOOBJOOG NEWS | ARUSHA: The secretariat of the East African Community (EAC) regional bloc is hosting a high-level meeting of the border communities of Kenya, Uganda, and South Sudan.

The meeting is being organized in collaboration with authorities in Uganda, Kenya, and South Sudan, aiming to resolve boundary disputes that strain ties among the communities, according to a statement issued earlier this week by the EAC headquarters in Tanzania’s northern city of Arusha. 

The security forum, which will be held in Moroto, Uganda, will bring together officials from Kenya’s Turkana, Uganda’s Karamojong, and South Sudan’s Toposa and Didinga communities, which have long been marked by rich cultural diversity and shared histories. 

According to the statement, following the meeting, the border community officials will jointly launch the sensitization program in Moroto, which will focus on peaceful coexistence, good neighborliness, and prosperity for border communities.

This initiative will set in motion a series of sensitization and awareness activities that will take place in Lokichogio, Kenya, and Narus, South Sudan. 

The EAC groups the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Somalia, Burundi, Rwanda, Kenya, Uganda, South Sudan and Tanzania.
