GOOBJOOG NEWS | NAIROBI: East African Community (EAC) member states have begun planning for joint military exercises aimed at strengthening regional coordination and readiness, as officials opened a three-day operations conference in Nairobi on Tuesday.

Somalia’s delegation is led by Colonel Ahmed Isse Ahmed, Commander of the Somali National Army’s Training and Doctrine Command. Senior officers from SNA Headquarters and the Ministry of Defence are also attending.

The conference, held at the Humanitarian Peace Support Training Centre, will map out the first phase of the joint exercises, which are designed to improve how EAC forces work together during security crises, peacekeeping operations and humanitarian responses.

The initiative comes as the region faces evolving security challenges, including cross-border threats, militia activity and climate-related emergencies, making coordinated response capabilities increasingly critical.
