East African Leaders to Meet In Arusha for 25th EAC Summit
GOOBJOOG NEWS | ARUSHA: Heads of state from the East African Community (EAC) will convene their 25th ordinary summit on March 7 in the northern Tanzanian city of Arusha, the bloc said.
The meeting, held under the theme “Deepening Integration for Improved Livelihoods of EAC Citizens,” will review progress on regional programmes and set priorities aimed at boosting economic growth and living standards across the eight-member bloc.
Leaders are expected to launch the EAC Customs Bond, a single regional customs guarantee intended to replace multiple national bonds along transit corridors. The mechanism will allow traders to use one bond recognised across all member states, a move officials say will lower compliance costs, reduce border delays and improve revenue collection.
The summit will also see the unveiling of the bloc’s 7th EAC Development Strategy, outlining key actions to accelerate integration and socio-economic transformation over the next five years.
EAC Secretary General Veronica Nduva said the gathering offers a platform for collective decision-making to strengthen cooperation and advance shared prosperity in the region.
