Economic Experts, Gov’t Officials Gather in Mogadishu for Post-Debt Development Forum

GOOBJOOG NEWS/MOGADISHU: A forum bringing together economic experts and government officials focused on post-debt cancellation economic transition opened today in Mogadishu.

The Somali Development Forum which was graced by Deputy Prime Minister Salah Jama will be exploring Somalia’s economic development following the cancellation of debt in December.

The IMF and World Bank announced a full cancellation of Somalia’s $5.4 billion in December ending the long journey by Somalia to rid itself of the huge debt burden.

Somalia is currently under the post-Completion Point under the IMF and World Bank’s Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) initiative.

The two-day forum is hosted by Heritage Institute for Policy Studies and City University.
