Effective planning of operations critical to the success of the AU mission in Somalia, says AMISOM
The Force Commander of the African Union Mission in Somalia (AMISOM) Lt. General Osman Noor Soubagleh has said effective planning of military operations is critical to the Mission’s success.
Lt. Gen. Soubagleh made the remarks while officially closing a two weeks Planning course for AMISOM Force Headquarters’ staff. The training was organized by the mission in conjunction with the UK Mission Support Team (UK MST) and is aimed at enhancing planning skills of mission personnel.
“Working as a multi-national force involves a lot of challenges, and the ability to plan well is critical to the success of the mission,” Lt. Gen. Soubagleh said, in his remarks.
He emphasized the importance of planning, to effectively counter Al Shabaab terrorists.
“As AMISOM is a multi-national force, it is essential that we work together, using a common language, doctrine and process,” the Force Commander added.
He appealed to the officers to use the skills they have acquired, to enable the mission achieve its mandate of pacifying Somalia and degrading Al Shabaab.
Col. Ali Nouhou, the AMISOM Force Headquarters Chief Training Officer and Mr. Eric Tyson, the Director of ALCEON, a UK based company that facilitated the training, were present at the closing ceremony.
Participants at the two-week course were derived from all the five Troop Contributing Countries of Kenya, Uganda, Burundi, Ethiopia and Djibouti.
