Efforts to end clan clashes in Sool and Sanaag region kick off
Puntland appointed reconciliation committee has stated that it will start mediating two brotherly clans who fought in Sool and Sanaag regions.
The committee pointed out that it will meet with the elders from both sides separately to iron out disputes.
The chairman of the committee, Abdirahman Diriiye Qoorad speaking to Goobjoog News stated the committee had already met the council elders from the two clans and both warring sides agreed to come to negotiation table as to understand the differences.
“Our first focus is to get the factor that influenced the eruption the clashes because unless the cause is found nothing can proceed” he said.
This came after heavy fighting between these two clans in Burtinle locality caused casualties and displacement of civilians around skirmishing areas.
There had been clan clashes in those areas particularly Burtinle and other neighbouring localities which claimed the lives of many people mostly fighting sides.
Arguments over land use, boreholes and pasture have perennially contributed to fighting among Somali clans who are largely pastoralists.
