GOOBJOOG NEWS | CAIRO: Egyptian Prime Minister Moustafa Madbouli has reiterated Egypt’s “full support” for Somalia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity saying it is essential for achieving security, and stability in the region.

Speaking during a meeting with outgoing Somali Ambassador Elias Sheikh Omar Abu Bakr on Sunday in Cairo, the Egyptian PM expressed his desire to strengthen cooperation between the two countries.

Ambassador Abu Bakr, who is wrapping up his tenure in Egypt, thanked Egyptian government for its support to Somalia especially in development and security sectors.

This comes amidst ongoing tension between Somalia and Ethiopia over the Somaliland naval deal which has attracted widespread condemnation from several nations.

Somali President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud denounced the deal as a violation of international law and sought regional support during his recent visit to Egypt, meeting with Arab League chief Ahmed Aboul Gheit and Al-Azhar Mosque’s Grand Imam, Sheikh Ahmed al-Tayeb.
